Kaitlyn, widely known as Xureila, is a full-time Sims content creator, with a penchant for storytelling. She fell in love with The Sims™  when she discovered The Sims 2 on PlayStation 2, and would play every day for hours! In 2012, she wanted to find cheat codes for the game on YouTube and ended up down a let’s play rabbit hole! After hours and hours of watching videos, she decided she wanted to tell her own stories and launched her channel in 2013. The Sims is and will always be her favorite game franchise, and she wouldn’t change a thing about her journey as a Simmer.

It seemed only natural that her passion for the game would one day translate into a thoughtful and artful collaboration. For The Sims 4 Modern Luxe Kit, Xureila collaborated with studio developers and art directors throughout the project. She aided with the theme as well as items that would fit nicely into the kit’s overall aesthetic.

The Modern Luxe Kit allows players to treat themselves to luxurious modern furniture that says “I made it“. With this kit we’re leaving frugal in the past and choosing elegant art, sophisticated decor, and cushy comfort.

As part of our ongoing You Make The Sims series, we’re continuing to spotlight creators across the world who inspire us and the game we make. We sat down with Xureila to discuss her involvement with the creation process, her inspiration behind the aesthetic, and favorite pieces from the kit.

1.  What was your favorite part of the creation process?

My favorite part of the creation process has been seeing the concepts as objects in game! I was and still am amazed at how the design team brought my ideas and things I love and own to pixelated life!

2.  How do you see Simmers using this kit? What kind of builds do you envision them creating?

I see Simmers doing a Rags to Riches challenge, and once they get to the riches, Sims will have beautiful, modern, luxurious furniture to match the newly acquired luxurious lifestyles they've always wanted. I envision modern, luxurious mansions and individually-styled luxe bedrooms! This kit suits other packs and base game items extremely well, and I can't wait to see the community get creative and use the beautiful single pillow—I personally will be placing pillows everywhere!

3.  What is your favorite item from this new kit?

It’s difficult to be objective because I truly love the entire kit, but I find the bed and pillows stand out in the best way! Using move objects, it will be very easy to personalize each bedroom, and the pillows are adaptable enough to look great in any style room. I also look forward to seeing how console players are able to use the little trinkets and items in game to customize rooms with these sleek, modern objects because they won’t have to use the (phenomenal) live edit or hidden objects to acquire these trendy items. If I absolutely had to choose one item I love the most, it would be these beautiful art pieces that highlight people, luxury, and fashions that will emphasize The Sims team’s desire to bring in diverse items that suit various existences. As a Black Simmer, it was important for me to give back and center those who largely supported me. And, objectively speaking, they’re simply gorgeous pieces of art!

4.  What other packs do you see this kit pairing well with?

I could definitely see this kit paired with High Sschool Years, Vintage Glamour Stuff, Get Famous, and even Dream Home Decorators. As I said before, this kit also works well with simply base game, because over the years we’ve received a few really awesome free base game updates that have introduced new, more current styles. I’m excited to have a style in the game that suits the times and matches the aesthetic so many of us see currently.

5.  What type of Sim would use these build/buy items (what traits would they have, give us a little background story)

The Sim I had in mind during this creation process is named Imani Wright, and she’s high maintenance, self-assured, and a perfectionist. She’s a Sim-world-renowned actress and Simstagram model with millions of Social Bunny Followers who look to her to provide insight on trends and beautiful things they might want to buy for themselves. Imani comes from a wealthy family—her father is a doctor, and her mother is a lawyer. She grew up in a nice, traditional-styled home, and spent her time dreaming of making enough money someday to have a luxurious mansion that suited her own tastes and styles, and now, with The Sims 4 Modern Luxe Kit, her dreams have finally come true! She is now free to decorate her mansion and live her best, most bougie lifestyle.

6.  Can you describe some of the key features and elements that players can expect to see in the kit?

Players can expect to see true modern glam with the sleek, brushed metals that appear in game in a way they never have before, but the items are still understated and classic enough to be simple and suit other styles. The key features are the bed, pillow, and the framed artwork that doubles as a television—which is also something that has never appeared in game before. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to pull these elements into the game, and look forward to seeing everyone’s builds!
