• Battlefield V War Stories: Nordlys Resist occupation and disrupt a grand weapon scheme.

Along with innovative multiplayer experiences, Battlefield V will explore mankind’s greatest conflict across a collection of single-player War Stories that bring the human toll of World War 2 to the forefront.

War Stories uses the anthology format introduced in Battlefield™ 1, and each War Story will take players to unexpected fronts. Today we’ll explore Nordlys, which takes place during the German occupation of Norway. Use stealth, takedowns, and evasions to rescue one of your own and stop a vital enemy shipment.

    Slow the War Machine

Under the green hue of the Northern Lights and hidden among the Norwegian mountains, something dangerous is being built, something that could dramatically alter the direction of World War 2.

In Nordlys, players take on the role of a Solveig, a young Norwegian resistance fighter. Alone, she must brave the unforgiving cold of the Norway winter as well as evade or engage occupation soldiers, thwart a war scheme, and rescue her captive mother.

“This is a tale of resistance, family and sacrifice in the Scandinavian peaks. You're a guerilla fighter that terrifies the local German garrison while trying to rescue a member of the resistance.” said Eric Holmes, War Stories design director.

As players move deeper into Nordlys, they’ll discover that the main character’s story centers not only on a fight for her country’s liberation from occupying forces, but her family’s survival.

Pelle Hallert, cinematic director with DICE, said he enjoyed shooting the cinematics for what he felt was a relevant story with a compelling backdrop.

“We are trying to tell players an untold story. I'm not sure how many are familiar with the heavy water production in Norway and what actually went on there,” he said. “But it was important for the Germans and the resistance fighters who actually put up their lives in order to eliminate or destroy this heavy water.”

    Resist Your Way

Nordlys is built with multiple ways for players to reach their captured mother and disrupt the enemy’s plans. But your best shot at resistance is to move like the Battlefield V Recon Class, which uses stealth, intelligence, and precise weapons to even overwhelming odds.

As players move closer to the tall, illuminated facility in the distance, they’ll begin to see evidence of the occupation there. Small forts and supply areas patrolled by German forces have scarred the natural winter beauty. It’s your job to either sneak past them or wipe them out.

“It’s very much about not being seen, striking fast, and moving quickly,” Holmes said.

Thankfully, your character is equipped with more than the burden of her mission. A pair of skis will keep you mobile. Use these to navigate the Scandinavian landscape, stick-and-move between vulnerable enemies, and flee if you’re seen.

You’ll start with single-shot weapons to help keep your profile low – including a pair of throwing knives that can be hurled at enemies while skiing.

Master these, and you’ll never be more than a whisper in the enemy’s cold breath.

However, if your cover is blown, prepare to face even tougher fights, because the enemy will call in reinforcements. Also, beware the threat of hypothermia that lingers in the surroundings.
