We are Maxis.

Maxis is a studio where a diverse collection of creatives make games that inspire players across the globe. We have offices in Redwood City, CA, Austin, TX, and Kitchener, ON, as well as team members based across the US and Europe.

Our story

1987 — The beginning

Maxis is founded by Will Wright and Jeff Braun.

1989 — SimCity

Players start building their own cities in the original SimCity.

1993 — SimCity 2000

The creative building continues in a new city simulator.

1997 — Joining forces

Maxis becomes part of Electronic Arts.

1999 — SimCity 3000

The legacy evolves as players re-create cities from around the world.

2000 — The Sims

The first installment of the life simulator launches. It’s time to play with life.

2003 — SimCity 4

The city-building fun grows.

2004 — The Sims 2

Players guide new Sims through life and help them achieve their goals.

2008 — Spore

Players experiment on a massive scale, guiding species from microscopic organisms to sentient space explorers.

2009 — The Sims 3

Players explore a clockwork world while guiding Sims through their lives.

2013 — SimCity (again!)

The classic is updated and expanded for a new generation.

2014 — The Sims 4

Players discover endless possibilities as they create and control Sims, build their homes, and share their creations.

2020 — The Sims Spark'd

Competitors on this show face creative challenges in The Sims.
