Your guide to: FIFA Ultimate Team Packs

What is FIFA Ultimate Team?

FIFA Ultimate Team is a mode in EA SPORTS FIFA that lets you build your dream squad and take your team into matches against other members of the community or in solo single player.

In FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT), you acquire Items in multiple ways. One of these ways is by opening FUT Packs. All Items can be obtained, and every part of the mode can be played without ever spending, and purchases are entirely optional.

You can learn more about FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) here: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/fifa/fifa-23/ultimate-team

What are FUT Packs?

FUT Packs are virtual in-game packs that contain randomised content like players and club Items.  Because the specific contents in FUT Packs are randomised and not visible to you before they are opened, this mechanic is  sometimes referred to as a loot box.

When you start playing FUT, you will automatically receive a starter FUT Pack, which contains the Items you need to fill out your starting lineup. You will receive additional FUT Packs as rewards just for playing the game and also have the option to acquire FUT Packs through the in-game store, using FUT Coins or FIFA Points.  In FIFA, you earn Coins through gameplay or selling items on the Transfer Market, or you can purchase FIFA Points to spend on FUT Packs and Stadium Customisation Items, or enter Ultimate Draft. Coins can also be used to buy players and Items on the FIFA Ultimate Team Transfer Market.

Any Pack that can be purchased using FIFA Points can also be acquired using earned Coins, but some Packs can only be earned or acquired using earned Coins. Purchasing FUT Packs is always optional. In fact, nine in ten FUT Packs are opened through in-game play and more than three-quarters of FIFA 21 players have never spent in-game.

What are FIFA Preview Packs?

Initially introduced during FIFA 21, Preview Packs are a new addition to FIFA Ultimate Team. Designed to increase player choice, this new form of FUT Pack will allow you to see the specific Items contained within the pack before committing to acquire with either FUT Coins or FIFA Points.

After you view the Items, you can then either confirm you want to use FIFA Points or FUT Coins to acquire or choose not to go through with it. The Pack remains available for a limited period. When this period has expired, you can preview another Pack of the same type, or preview other Pack types immediately.

Preview Packs will be available permanently for standard packs throughout the year and for promo packs during special FIFA 22 Ultimate Team events.

For more information, please see our Pitch Notes page from the Festival of Futball in June 2021.

How do FUT Packs work?

There are three types of packs available in the FUT Store throughout the season: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.  Throughout the year, we launch various promo packs that are available for a limited time. Each FUT Pack indicates the number of Items included and the quality of Items included (Bronze, Silver or Gold).  FUT Packs are never empty, and the content ranges from highly sought-after players to lower-rated players, kits, balls, stadium customisation items, consumables, and more.

Once you have acquired a FUT Pack by using Coins, through rewards, or by spending FIFA Points, you can open it and begin using the items in that Pack. There are several ways to use Pack player items, including adding them to your team, using them in Squad Building Challenges, Quick Selling them for Coins or exchanging  items for Coins in the Transfer Market.

What is the Transfer Market?

The Transfer Market is an in-game auction house where you exchange items for Coins. You can list any content you acquire from tradeable packs (any pack that is bought with Coins or FIFA Points, and selected packs that are earned through gameplay) on the Transfer Market for other members of the FUT Community to buy using their Coins.  You can use Coins you’ve earned through matches or the Transfer Market to buy items from other players.  You can find more details on the FUT Transfer Market here.

What is the Transfer Market transaction fee?

All Transfer Market trades have a 5% Transaction Fee in Coins. The fee is applied to successful trades, but won’t be taken from an unsuccessful trade.

Here's an example of how the fee works:

Item trade price: 1000 Coins

Final Transaction Fee: 50 Coins (5%)

Coins added to the seller’s balance: 950 Coins

The Transaction Fee helps to control the growth of Coins in the economy and keep a balanced in-game economy. This helps keep the market fair and accessible for players of all levels.

Can I sell the contents of my FUT Pack outside of FIFA Ultimate Team?

No, the contents don’t have any real-world value. There is no monetary value to FUT Packs.

I live in Belgium. Can I still buy FUT packs?

FIFA Points are not available for purchase in Belgium but players can still acquire FUT Packs with FUT Coins or as in-game rewards.

How can I manage my play and purchases?

FIFA Playtime is the in-game tool that  lets you understand and manage how you play. You get an overview of time you spend in FIFA 21, the number of matches you play across all modes in FIFA 21, the FIFA Points you purchase, and the number of FUT Packs you open.

You can find more about FIFA Playtime here:

https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/fifa/fifa-21/fifa-playtime#playtime-features

Can I buy or sell FUT Coins outside of the game itself?

No, you can earn FUT Coins by playing FUT and trading within the Transfer Market, but you can’t purchase them. Buying or selling coins from a third-party is against our rules.

We have these rules to keep things fun and fair for everyone that plays FIFA, and anyone that breaks them can get banned.  You can find more on our rules here: https://help.ea.com/in/help/fifa/fifa-rules/

I don’t want to spend in FIFA at all, how do I limit this altogether?

Spending is always optional, and most players choose not to spend:

  • Over three quarters of players have never spent in-game.
  • Nine out of ten packs are opened with in-game points earned in the game.

Our in-game tool FIFA Playtime, enables players to track and monitor how many FIFA Points they purchase from the in-game store. They can also track the number of FIFA Ultimate Team Packs they open with FIFA Points or FUT Coins, (which are virtual currency that can be earned for playing in the game). Parents can set time and spend limits at console level. More information on that can he found here.
