EA SPORTS™ Premier League Player of the Month - December - Harry Kane

After an impressive December that saw the England international score eight goals, breaking Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record for the calendar year in the process, EA SPORTS spoke to Harry Kane as he was named EA SPORTS Player of the Month. He discussed how his game has changed this season and how he feels to have emulated players such as Steven Gerrard, Teddy Sheringham and Alan Shearer.

EA SPORTS™: Congratulations, this is your 6th player of the month award and you’ve now moved level with Steven Gerrard as the player who has won the most player of the month awards.

Harry Kane: Yea it’s amazing, I’m very proud of that. As always, a big thanks to the team, it was a great month and great to break that record.

EA SPORTS™: You scored 8 goals in December, which was your favourite?

HK: I would probably say the one that broke (Alan Shearer’s goal scoring) record against Southampton. Obviously there was a lot of talk before the game about whether I would do it or not so to get that goal early on in the game, it was a great achievement.

EA SPORTS™: You’ve scored 18 goals already this season, you’ve never scored so many in the first half of the season, that’s despite not scoring at all in August. You’ve also had more shots in the penalty area this season than the whole of last season. How has your game changed this campaign?

HK: A bit of everything, the team is maybe creating more chances, getting higher up the field and getting shots of the field. I feel good, I feel sharp so it’s a strange stat, I didn’t realise that so I’ll guess I’ll just carry it on.

EA SPORTS™: Do you think it’s a combination of your teammates creating more chances and your own finishing being sharper?

HK: I think so. I think it’s a bit of both, whenever I get around the box I feel I can get a shot off quickly and then of course the team have been creating some great chances and I’m there to stick them in the back of the net.

EA SPORTS™: A word on your personal objectives, how important is trying to win a third golden boot in a row for you?

HK: Yea that’s always the aim as a striker going into the Premier League, to try and win that golden boot. It’s tight at the top and there is still a long way to go so for me it’s about trying to be patient and taking each game as it comes and seeing where we are come the end of the season.

EA SPORTS™: You’ve just overtaken Teddy Sheringham’s overall goal scoring record, I think you need one more in the Premier League to overtake him but you are now being mentioned amongst some truly great names here at Tottenham.

HK: It’s unbelievable, Teddy was a big role model of mine growing up so to be ahead of him now in all time and a couple away from his premier league record, it’s amazing. It’s happened so quickly so I’ve just got to carry it on and keep going.
