The eChampions League seasons concluded with SC Paderborn 07’s Jonny lifting the trophy in front of a jam-packed crowd at the Magazine London in London England.
Here’s our recap of all the action from the eChampions League Finals.
Quarter-finals
Jonny vs Montaxer
German wunderkind, Jonny, had a dominant performance against eLigue 1 talent Montaxer. Montaxer’s normally potent attack was completely shut down by the SC Paderborn 07 player, as he failed to find a way to break down his opponent’s defence.
While Jonny’s back line was rock solid, Montaxer’s defence was the exact opposite as he failed to stop his opponent from carving them open consistently. Once Jonny realised he was able to unlock Montaxer’s defence, the 19-year-old was able to almost score at will.
The goals began to fly in, but despite Montaxer’s best efforts, he was unable to claw his way back from defeat.
Jonny wins 4-0
Bonanno vs DaniPitbull
Manchester City’s Bonanno knew he was in for a tough game when he was matched up against eSerie A legend DaniPitbull, but he might’ve been slightly surprised by the Italian’s refusal to throw in the towel.
Bonanno opened the scoring with a fantastic header from Didier Droga, utilising the Ivorian’s incredible power and Aerial Playstyle+ to great effect. In most matches, Bonanno would dominate the game if he opened the scoring, but DaniPitbull was unwilling to stay down.
The Italian constantly fought back, giving Bonanno plenty to worry about throughout the match. Thankfully for him, his talent allowed him to secure a solid 5-3 victory
Bonanno win 5-3
Emre Yilmaz vs Manu Bachoore
The battle of PSV Eindhoven stalwarts, Emre Yilmaz and Manu Bachoore, lived up to fans' lofty expectations as these two heavyweights slugged it out.
Yilmaz, last year’s eChampions League champion, came out on top in the end, but Man bachoore made sure his teammate had to earn a hard-fought victory. Bachoore was able to maintain pressure against Yilmaz throughout the match, but wasn’t able to convert key chances that would help turn the tide, specifically a penalty late in the game that was saved.
Emre Yilmaz wins 3-2
Levyfinn vs DFernandes
Levyfinn impressed in his quarter-final win over DFernandes, beating the Cadiz CF’s DFernandes without too much trouble.
Levy has looked solid throughout the competition, but many wondered if the Red Bull Leipzig player would struggle against an opponent who has been the dark horse of the tournament.
Despite DFernandes efforts, he was simply no match for Levy, as the German punished every mistake his opponent made.
Levyfinn wins 3-1
Semi-finals
Jonny vs Bonanno
The FC community were treated to a magnificent game between Jonny and Bonanno as both players went toe-to-toe in a memorable battle of two extremely talented players.
Jonny opened the scoring first with a delightful goal, but Bonanno came back with a much-needed equaliser, roaring in celebration as he got one back against his opponent. Jonny would take the lead once more, but Bonanno would not stay down as he drew level again.
Sadly for the Manchester City player, a mistake in the box allowed Jonny to score a late-penalty and secure the victory against Bonanno.
Jonny wins 3-2
Levyfinn vs Emre Yilmaz
Levyfinn annihilated last season’s eChampions League winner Emre Yilmaz, putting multiple goals past the PSV Eindhoven man.
Yilmaz seemed to have the better technical play than Levyfinn, especially when it came to passing the ball through the lines. However, what Levy lacked in technical play, he made up for in droves with his ability to punish Yilmaz whenever he would counter-attack.
Yilmaz will be disappointed with his inability to take advantage of his opponent’s weaknesses, but Levy’s proficiency in front of goal was simply too hot to handle.
Levyfinn wins 6-2
Finals
Jonny vs Levyfinn
We had a rematch of the Virtual Bundesliga final as Jonny took on Levyfinn to crown an new eChampions League champion.
When these two elite FC players played against each other earlier this year, Jonny thrashed Levy 8-1 in a resounding victory. Although their rematch wasn’t quite as one-sided, Jonny still showed that he was levels above of his opponent, smashing some spectacular goals past Levy to secure the eChampions League trophy.
Credit should be given to Levy who looked a lot more dangerous in this game compared to their first contest, but it just wasn’t enough to help him earn the title.
Jonny wins 5-2 to win the eChampions League trophy
