FC Pro Open - Match Week 5 Round-Up

The first two FC Pro Open finalists have been confirmed following the conclusion of Group A on Monday evening (January 8).

The drama flowed once again as Emre Yilmaz, Umut, Mark11, H1dalgo and Lukas all vied for just two qualification spots.

Round 6

Heading into Monday night's crunch fixtures, Yilmaz and Umut were firmly in the driving seat, having bridged a gap to third-placed H1dalgo. Simply put, the Spaniard couldn't afford a slip-up in his first match of the night against Mark11 - who had yet to win a game in Group A.

A tense tie unfolded in Round 1, but it was H1dalgo who popped up with a late Kylian Mbappe winner to keep his slim hopes of qualifying for the Finals alive.

Unfortunately for H1dalgo, at the very same time, group leader Emre Yilmaz secured an impressive 3-0 win over Lukas, making his second-round match with Umut a must-win.

Round 7

H1dalgo had no room for error in his clash against RBLZ Gaming star Umut, as a win for the German would all but seal his place in the Finals.

Things were looking promising for H1dalgo early on, but a late rally by Umut saw him pull away decisively - and seal a fine 4-1 victory over his nearest rival. Just two games in and the Group A qualification places had already been decided.

Nevertheless, there was still the important matter of who'd top Group A and who'd make it into the Top 4 - which would ensure automatic qualification for next season's FC Pro Open Global Qualifier.

With Lukas and Mark11 sitting on three and zero points respectively before Monday night, their match would go a long way towards deciding who'd clinch the all-important 4th place.

Heading into the final 10 minutes of their second-round tie, the game was level at 2-2, but a set-piece goal from Virgil van Dijk handed Mark11 his first victory of the FC Pro Open so far.

Round 8

The midway point of the evening saw Lukas get back to winning ways with a crushing 5-2 win over H1dalgo, while the group leaders duelled it out for top spot in Round 8's other game.

With the Group A runner-up likely to play high-flying PHzin in the Quarter-finals, much was at stake, and Umut boosted his chances of topping the table after winning 4-2 against the Team Gullit standout.

"It was a 50-50 match (against Emre Yilmaz)," Umut said after the game.

"It was very close, Emre is really good...he's one of the best."

Round 9

The game of the day came in Round 9, as Lukas battled hard to wrap up fourth place in Group A.

The German rallied brilliantly after going 2-0 down early on, taking a 3-2 lead on the stroke of half-time. But this inspired another comeback from Umut, with the match eventually finishing 4-4 after yet more late drama.

Fortunately for Lukas, Mark11's 5-2 loss against Emre Yilmaz guaranteed the Hansa Rostock player a place in next season's FC Pro Open Global Qualifier - after he finished fourth in the group.

Round 10

Heading into the final round of Group A, all that was left to be settled was who'd finish top.

Emre Yilmaz once again showed his brilliance with a comfortable 6-2 victory over H1dalgo, while Umut had a much trickier time in his match with Mark11.

The German's unbeaten run came to an end after a late winner from Mark11 saw the Aussie end a disappointing campaign on a high note.

Those results mean that Emre Yilmaz tops Group A, setting up a clash against the runner-up from Group D in the Quarter-final. "For me, I don't want to play Levi [de Weerd] because he is my teammate" Yilmaz said of his potential Group D opponent.

Meanwhile, Umut will face the winner of Group B in the Finals, which will almost certainly be Brazilian star PHzin.
