A Deep Dive Into My Team
From humble beginnings to Championship wins
What is My Team?
My Team puts you in charge of the 11th team of the Formula 1® 2021 season. As a new team with a modest budget, you will carve your path from rookie to World Championship glory, forging your legacy in the sport’s illustrious history.
How to start My Team
Every great journey towards legendary status starts with a first step, and yours is in My Team. To get started, head to the ‘Career’ tab and select ‘Single Player Career’ and you will be greeted with ‘My Team’. Now it’s time to get ready for one of the most thrilling experiences in Formula 1®.
The first step towards Greatness
Before you can think about winning the World Championship, you need to build solid foundations: a Team name, striking livery, Power Unit and Teammate are first on the agenda.
Define how your team looks on and off the track with a far-reaching selection of inspired liveries that you can customize, at any time, to create the perfect powerhouse of performance on track
After embracing your artistic nature, you will need to think tactically and, as a small team, financially, as you pick the perfect Power Unit and title sponsor to forge your path in the world of F1®.
Now it’s time to unveil the team and drivers to the world and face the media for the first of many exciting interviews that can shape your future. Set the tone on how you want the team to be seen; answer modestly and boost the morale of your departments or become the next big name in the sport to improve your acclaim, attracting bigger and better sponsors.
First Race Weekend
Not only are you one of the few to build a fledgling team, but you get to experience the exhilarating and unmatched ferocious speed of your car. Throughout the weekend, you will take part in practice programmes to give your team a better understanding of how the car runs and to allow you to learn the track. You’ll also receive invaluable resource points that you can spend on Research and Development of your car.
What to do between races
As the team principal, you will know that even when there’s no racing, you still need to work hard on your journey to greatness. Here you will focus on Research & Development, upgrading your Facilities, driver training, marketing, team building and much more.
You can decide how best to focus your efforts as each activity offers different rewards. Improving or worsening the morale in your departments will influence how much new parts cost and the overall risk of the part failing. Earn extra Resource Points for R&D, train your teammate to improve their abilities on track, or help the team attract new sponsors with promotional activities that boost your acclaim. You can’t do it all, and it’s down to you to decide how you want to use the limited time available.
Developing the foundations to success
Building your World Championship winning team needs perfect collaboration between the driver and the development of the car. You will need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the car, considering the following: Aerodynamics, Powertrain, Chassis & Durability.
Research and Development:
Aerodynamics – Focusing on how the car interacts with the air. If you want to improve your cornering speeds, this is your first stop.
Powertrain – Here, the Power Unit is the main star of the show, looking at increasing the overall power, which helps top speed and acceleration out of corners.
Chassis – Weight is a key factor in F1®. The Chassis team will put the car on a diet without it losing any strength, giving you an advantage with increased performance.
Durability – There’s an old saying, “To finish first, first you must finish”, and that is the department's mantra. Upgrades here allow you to push the car harder and for longer.
Department Facilities
It’s not just your car that you can upgrade – for your staff to work at their best, they will need world-class facilities to invigorate and promote creative ideas. You will have access to six facilities to manage: Aerodynamics, Powertrain, Chassis, Durability, Personnel, and Marketing.
Improving your Aerodynamics, Powertrain, Chassis and Durability Facilities grants you access to better upgrades in the R&D tree along with developing multiple new components in the same department, reducing the time it takes to build the parts and other benefits.
Focusing on Personnel helps strengthen your teammates on-track performances, as winning a Constructors Championship needs both drivers to be firing on all cylinders.
Investing in your Marketing department on the other hand will help increase your teams’ acclaim and attract bigger and better sponsors – this helps finance the whole operation
As the driver-owner, you will grapple with tough decisions that can affect departments morale, interpersonal relationships, marketing activities, driver signings and the technical development inside and outside of the car.
