Group B gave us just about everything in Match Week 6. There was drama, late winners and a whole host of memorable moments.

So, here’s what we learned from PHzin, Young, FacuCowen, Happy and Bonanno.

Dealing with pressure

Many expected PHzin to sail through to the top spot, but the Ajax player was under plenty of pressure after taking one point from his first two matches of the evening. That included a 4-0 defeat against FacuCowen that contributed to the Brazilian’s admission that he didn’t play well on the day.

Despite there being fears at one point that he wouldn’t even make the top two, PHzin eventually finished three points ahead of anybody in the group. So, having taught viewers that nothing can be taken for granted, the Brazilian also proved that he can come through pressure situations.

Having gone behind against Bonanno, PHzin scored a wide variety of goals on his way to a 6-5 win, including a superb trivela with Juan Sebastian Veron. There were even more goals and twists in the final match, as the Brazilian came out the 7-6 victor against Happy. While the shouts of “vamos” and facial expressions from the Ajax player showed that he was feeling the pressure, there was enough composure to score a 93rd-minute goal with Mia Hamm to confirm the win and top spot.

Finest of margins

FacuCowen facing Young

FacuCowen could do nothing but watch on from the sidelines in the final round of matches, as Young beat Bonanno 6-3 to finish above his Tuzzy Esports teammate on goals scored. If there is anything that shows the finest margins matter in FC Pro, that is surely it.

The two players got off to an almost identical start to Match Week 6, each recording a win and draw with FacuCowen then beating PHzin 4-0 before the pair faced each other in Round 9. It was a match filled with quality and tension, but FacuCowen’s Luka Modric goal from an Erling Haaland knockdown was enough to earn the Argentine a 4-3 win and put pressure on Young.

FacuCowen’s near-perfect results on the night still weren't quite enough to see him reach the FC Pro Open Quarter Finals. Young’s emotion in the closing match against Bonanno was clear to see as he shouted triumphantly after scoring, and that spilled out into tears when the final whistle confirmed the three-goal lead the Brazilian needed to progress with his compatriot PHzin.

This battle for second provided exactly the drama everyone wants to see in FC Pro, while also offering an insight into Young’s ability to come through the most intense situations. It has to be added that even though FacuCowen bows out for this year, his latest displays offer plenty of encouragement for next season’s competition and beyond.

Watch the goal difference

Happy

In a continuation of the previous point, Happy was another example showing that players need to ensure that they avoid heavy defeats to maintain their goal difference.

A draw against FacuCowen and victory over Bonanno offer the latest sign that the Mexican can make his mark at this level, yet a 7-1 loss against PHzin in Match Week 2 and 6-1 defeat to Young in Round 6 resulted in a goal difference that significantly lowered his chances of making the top two.

Even with that being the case, there was a positive insight into Happy’s mentality, as he definitely played his part in a thrilling closing match against PHzin and was only beaten by a 93rd-minute goal.

After Happy’s performances in the FC Pro Open and the Global Qualifier, there will be plenty of people waiting to see what he will do going forward.

Not getting the results

Bonanno

Finishing with eight losses from eight matches at the FC Pro Open makes this one to forget for Bonanno.

Despite the disastrous face of it, the Manchester City player actually put in a number of impressive performances in Match Week 6, with the first three defeats on the night all coming by a one-goal margin.

There were also some unlucky moments, such as when he hit the post with Ronaldo shortly after conceding against FacuCowen and couldn’t help but laugh when the ball bounced in off Thibaut Courtois to gift Happy a goal. Something a bit more pleasing was the resilience shown by the Argentine, who kept going no matter the circumstances.
