Man City star Matias Bonanno - commonly known simply as Bonanno - shot to fame in 2022, having played out an all-Argentine eChampions League final against eNations Cup teammate nicolas99fc.

While the 20-year-old fell short of winning the top prize on that occasion, he is unquestionably one of the finest players in the world – which is why Man City Esports signed Bonanno in September 2023 to lead the franchise into the new ePremier League campaign.

With hopes of bolstering Man City’s upcoming title challenge, the man himself can’t wait to get started with the ePremier League side. "I am super excited with this new step in my career and could not be prouder to represent Man City Esports," said Matias when asked how it felt to be joining the club.

Matias’ esports journey started at Argentinos Juniors in November 2019 before he moved to KRU Esports almost a year later. With KRU Esports, the South American won the 2021 eLibertadores, fighting off some of the best Brazilian Pro Players in the process.

Following his continental triumphs, Matias moved to Europe, signing for Team Heretics and representing Real Zaragoza for the 2021/22 eLaLiga season.

That year, Matias finished second in the eLaLiga Cup and also progressed to the League Grand Final. To top off the season, Matias won the Global Series Team of the Season Cup and placed second in the eChampions League.

The following season, after switching teams to Real Betis, Matias finished second in the eLaLiga Cup for a second campaign before going on to win the eLaLiga Grand Final in May.

An accomplished competitor at the international level, Matias has also represented Argentina at three successive eNations Cups, reaching the quarter-finals alongside nicolas99fc in 2023.

His only defeat in the FC Pro Open Global Qualifier came against new Manchester City teammate Tekkz, as he overcame Damie, K1john, Paulo Neto and JistenNSQ in the Swiss Stage - scoring six goals in three of those matches.

That was followed up by more impressive wins over Emre Yilmaz and Vejrgang in the knockouts to secure his place at the FC Pro Open. Things didn't go as well once he was there, though, as the Argentine finished bottom of Group B without a point to his name.
