FC Pro Draft Preview - Match Week 8
Match Week 8 sees the five players in Group D select their squads using all-new draft requirements.
January 29

The FC Pro Open Group Stages will officially conclude on Monday evening (January 29), as the five players in Group D attempt to qualify for Saturday's Finals.

Selecting the right squad will be paramount to doing so, and for Match Week 8, all new FC Pro Draft requirements have been set.

Before we dive into the squads that  Fouma, Levi De Weerd, Tekkz, The1OS and Obrun have selected, here's a brief FC Pro Draft explainer for those of you who aren't yet familiar.

What is the FC Pro Draft?

With FC Pro Draft, competitors will be set a budget in coins that they must adhere to. As an example, for the FC Pro Open Global Qualifier in November last year, the budget was set at 8,000,000 coins. Competitors need to build a full squad – their starting XI and subs – that stays within this budget and submit it before the deadline.

The budget amount will change throughout the FC Pro Open, making the job of building a competitive squad even tougher.

Match Week 8 Draft Requirements

For Match Week 8, a new budget has been set. Players in Group C are able to spend 17,000,000 coins assembling their complete squads. They must also select a minimum of one Team of the Year or Team of the Year Icon in defense, midfield and attack. This means all squads will have a minimum of three TOTY items in total.

Match Week 8 Draft Requirements

So, with that in mind, let's take a look at who the five players in Group D have drafted.

Fouma

Fouma's squad

Frenchman Fouma has selected plenty of fellow countrymen and women - with Champions League Live Kylian Mbappe (95), RTTK Ousmane Dembele (90), Centurions David Ginola (90) and TOTY Wendie Renard (95) all in his starting XI.

Elsewhere, the Lorient star is the only Group D player to select a midfield duo of Radioactive Federico Valverde (90) and TOTY Rodri (95).

Lined up in a conventional 4-4-2, Fouma's squad has a chemistry of 26 overall.

Levi de Weerd

Levi De Weerd

Leading the way in Group D at the halfway stage, Levi De Weerd will be looking to the highest-rated card in his squad - 97-rated TOTY Erling Harland - to fire him into the Finals.

Interestingly, the Dutchman is the only player in the Group to pick TOTY Honourable Mention Trent Alexander-Arnold (88) in midfield - rather than his customary position of RB.

Spearheaded by Hero Ginola (89), de Weerd squad is lined up in a 4-3-2-1, and has a chemistry rating of 28.

Obrun

Obrun Squad

Opting for a 4-3-3 formation, Obrun is the only player in MW8 to not pick Alphonso Davies at Left-back - instead going for UEFA Heroes Sonia Bompastor (89).

Similarly, he is alone in picking TOTY Sam Kerr (96) as his main striker, with base Mbappe and Icon Mia Hamm (93) providing excellent pace on both wings.

The Italian's squad chemistry is the joint-highest in Group D - at 29.

Tekkz

Tekkz Squad

In his bid to turn around his fortunes after a poor Match Week 4, Tekkz is also deploying a 4-3-3 system.

His squad is certainly the most unconventional out of the five Group D players, with Trailblazer Joao Cancelo - ostensibly an attacking Full-back - being used in midfield.

Nevertheless, as the only player to pick Icon Ronaldinho and Icon TOTY Xavi, it's certainly not a midfield that's short on quality.

Like Obrun, the Man City star also has a squad chemistry of 29.

The1OS

The1OS Squad

Finally, we come to The1OS's squad, which is the only one to feature Winter Wildcard Icon Pele (96) and Thunderstruck Vinicius Jr (92).

Lined up in an attacking 4-2-4, the Saudi esports star has saved coins by choosing the Ultimate Dynasties Haaland (94) instead of his TOTY item.

With little in the way of club or national connections, his squad chemistry is just 26.

Most Selected Items

  • Thunderstruck Alphonso Davies (87) - Four Selections

  • TOTY Wendie Renard (95) - Four Selections

  • Base Virgil van Dijk (89) - Three Selections
