Things we learned in FC Pro Open Match Week 4
There were plenty of lessons when Obrun, Tekkz, Levi de Weerd, Fouma and The1OS met in Group D. We run through some of them here.

Obrun is one of the favourites to win this year's eSerie A TIM.

Group D was expected to be tight as soon as Obrun, Tekkz, Levi de Weerd, Fouma and The1OS were drawn into it.

That is exactly how things played out in Match Week 4, with a mere two points separating first and third. There were plenty of lessons to be learned along the way, and here are some of them.

Levi de Weerd leads

Like Emre Yilmaz, Levi de Weerd tops his group after the first round of fixtures - although he didn’t match his Team Gullit teammate’s tally of 10 points having lost against Obrun.

We learned how strong the Dutchman’s mindset is this time around, most notably in his opener against Tekkz. Having lost against the Manchester City player in the Swiss Stage, Levi de Weerd went behind when they met again but still came back to secure a 4-2 win.

Levi de Weerd beats Tekkz

There was pressure to perform after a break and the aforementioned defeat, but his focus and defensive capabilities came through in the final two rounds to secure wins against Fouma and The1OS without conceding. Fouma even mentioned how difficult the Dutchman’s defending is to face when he spoke after his final match.

Nobody in the entire FC Pro Open has conceded fewer goals than Levi de Weerd, so he’s going to be hard to catch.

Ice cold

Fouma and Obrun finished on seven points apiece and both were ice cold in pretty much every situation.

The pair opened the Match Week against each other and drew 2-2, and while Obrun lost his next fixture, Fouma looked imperious on his way to a 6-2 win over Tekkz - hardly reacting to any of his goals.

Obrun then stayed composed despite going behind against Levi de Weerd, going on to score a late winner and make the scoreline 3-2. Fouma secured a resounding 6-1 win over The1OS at the same time.

Fouma

There was finally a reaction from Fouma following a mistake in his defeat against Levi de Weerd, but Obrun secured a victory over Tekkz to draw level with the Frenchman on points.

Especially in the latter stages, there is likely to be plenty of pressure in a close race to progress, so it will be vital that competitors keep their heads and the pair showed that they can do that.

The1 to watch

Not many people felt that The1OS had a chance of progressing when he was drawn into Group D, yet he finished Match Week 4 with four points - a mere three behind second place.

Both of the Twisted Minds player’s losses were heavy, as he was defeated 6-1 and 4-0 by Fouma and Levi de Weerd respectively, but there were so many positives to take for somebody who is a newcomer at this level.

The1OS enjoyed his first experience of the FC Pro Open

The Saudi Arabian announced himself in style with a 3-0 win over Obrun and drew 4-4 in a thriller against the widely revered Tekkz.

Defying pre-competition expectations, The1OS has kept himself in with a chance and proved that he can be yet another exciting Saudi Arabian player, following the likes of Msdossary and AbuMakkah.

Tekkz tamed

Mark11, Bonanno, ManuBachoore and now Tekkz are all bottom of their respective groups despite being the topic of excitement before the FC Pro Open started.

Tekkz left Match Week 4 with a draw against The1OS and three defeats to his name, struggles that are made even more surprising by his unbeaten record in the Global Qualifier.

Tekkz

The Manchester City player perhaps showed the importance of the draft, as Tekkz was the only pro to pick Mike Maignan, with the verdict being that the goalkeeper disappointed, while Rio Ferdinand conceded four penalties.

If there is a positive to be taken, the group being so close could leave the Englishman with faint hopes of progressing if things go his way in Match Week 8.
